Optional toppings: pepperoni slices, sliced mushrooms, diced bell peppers, diced onions, sliced black olives, cooked crumbled sausage
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
Place bagel halves cut-side up on prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart. If bagels are very fresh, lightly toast for 2-3 minutes first.
Spread pizza sauce evenly over each bagel half using back of spoon. Use about 1 tablespoon per half, spreading to edges but not overloading.
Sprinkle Italian seasoning evenly over sauce on each bagel half, followed by grated Parmesan cheese.
Top each bagel half generously with shredded mozzarella cheese, using about 3 tablespoons per half. Cover sauce completely.
Add favorite toppings if desired. Place 4-6 pepperoni slices per half or sprinkle vegetables and cooked meats evenly over cheese.
Bake for 8-12 minutes, checking at 8 minutes. Pizza bagels are ready when cheese is fully melted, bubbly, and starting to turn golden brown in spots.
Remove from oven and let cool for 1-2 minutes before serving to allow cheese to set slightly.
Notes
Use block mozzarella that you shred yourself for best melting and flavor. Pre-shredded cheese contains anti-caking agents that affect texture.
Slightly stale bagels work better than fresh ones – they have less moisture and create crispier bases.
Don’t overload with toppings. Keep it to 2-3 toppings maximum per half to prevent sogginess.
Can freeze assembled but unbaked pizza bagels for up to 2 months. Bake directly from frozen, adding 3-5 minutes to cooking time.
