This homemade Chick-Fil-A sauce copycat comes together in exactly 5 minutes using simple pantry staples. Sweet, creamy, tangy, and smoky, it delivers the iconic fast-food dipping sauce flavor right in your own kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise (plain, standard variety)
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons yellow mustard (classic yellow, not spicy or Dijon)
  • 1 tablespoon BBQ sauce (original or brown sugar style)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 3/4 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke, hickory flavor recommended

Instructions

  1. Add the mayonnaise, honey, yellow mustard, and BBQ sauce to a small mixing bowl.
  2. Pour in the lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, and liquid smoke.
  3. Add the garlic powder and smoked paprika.
  4. Whisk vigorously until completely smooth and the honey is fully dissolved into the mayonnaise base. Look for a uniform pale-orange color with no honey streaks.
  5. Taste and adjust as needed. Add one extra drop of liquid smoke for more smokiness or a small squeeze of lemon for more tang.
  6. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld and deepen before serving.

Notes

  • Do not skip the liquid smoke. It is the key ingredient that makes this a true Chick-Fil-A sauce copycat rather than a standard honey mustard.
  • Use plain, unflavored mayonnaise and an original-style BBQ sauce like Sweet Baby Ray’s for the most accurate flavor.
  • Whisk vigorously to fully emulsify the honey into the mayo base so you do not get pockets of sweetness.
  • Letting the sauce rest in the fridge for 30 minutes before serving gives the spices time to bloom and improves the overall flavor significantly.
