Beginner-friendly 4-ingredient Za’atar Bagels with tangy Greek yogurt and Middle Eastern spice. No mixer required—ready 35 Minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup self-rising flour (or 1 cup all-purpose flour + 2 tsp baking powder + ½ tsp salt)
  • 1 cup thick Greek yogurt (avoid watery part)
  • 1 large egg
  • Za’atar seasoning (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or grease it well.
  2. In a large bowl, mix self-rising flour and Greek yogurt until a sticky dough forms. If making self-rising flour, ensure flour, baking powder, and salt are well combined first.
  3. Lightly flour a cutting board and knead the dough 10–15 times until just combined. Avoid over-kneading to maintain softness.
  4. Divide dough into 4 equal parts. Roll each into a rope and connect the ends to form a circle.
  5. Whisk the egg in a small bowl. Use a pastry brush to coat each bagel with egg wash for a shiny finish.
  6. Sprinkle za’atar seasoning generously over the top of each bagel.
  7. Place bagels on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown and firm.
  8. Remove from oven and allow bagels to cool to room temperature, about 15 minutes, before slicing.

Notes

  • Use thick Greek yogurt only—watery yogurt will ruin the dough texture.
  • If making self-rising flour, sifting helps evenly distribute baking powder and salt.
