Creamy, cheesy, and topped with crispy French fried onions, this easy French Onion Chicken Bake is the ultimate one-pan comfort food dinner ready in just 45 minutes with 8 simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups cooked chicken, shredded or diced
  • 1 cup green beans (fresh, canned, or frozen. or vegetable of choice)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (freshly shredded recommended)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1/4 cup slivered almonds (omit for nut allergies)
  • 6 oz French fried onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Spray a 9×13 baking pan with cooking spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked chicken, green beans, shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, cream of chicken soup, and slivered almonds. Stir until fully combined.
  3. Spread the chicken mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan and level the surface for consistent cooking.
  4. Bake uncovered for 30 minutes until edges are bubbling and the top is lightly golden.
  5. Remove from oven and sprinkle French fried onions evenly over the entire surface.
  6. Return to oven for 5 to 8 minutes until onions are deep golden brown and crispy. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  7. Remove from oven, rest for 5 minutes, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use rotisserie chicken for the easiest prep and the most flavorful result. Any pre-cooked chicken works well.
  • Swap green beans for broccoli, peas, or mushrooms based on preference.
  • Add French fried onions only in the last 5 to 8 minutes of baking to keep them crispy and prevent burning.
  • Freshly shredded cheddar melts significantly better than pre-shredded bagged cheese.
  • Do not cover the pan with foil at any point during baking.
