A quick and easy recipe for cheddar cheese quick bread that is cheesy, fluffy, and perfect for any meal or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 ½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons honey (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with butter or cooking spray, or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder. Stir in shredded cheddar cheese until coated.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, egg, melted butter, and honey until smooth.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and gently fold with a rubber spatula until just combined. Do not overmix. Batter will be thick.
  5. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
  7. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Cool for another 10-15 minutes before slicing, or serve warm.

Notes

  • Use sharp cheddar cheese for the boldest flavor. Freshly shredded cheese (about 6 ounces) melts better than pre-packaged.
  • Don’t overmix the batter – stir until just combined to keep the bread fluffy and light.
  • The garlic powder is optional but adds wonderful depth of flavor.
