Perfect for game day and casual gatherings, these cheesy, buttery, savory sliders are easy to make and irresistibly tasty. Featuring King’s Hawaiian sweet rolls filled with deli ham, cheddar, and Swiss cheese, then topped with a flavorful poppy seed butter mixture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package King’s Hawaiian Original Sweet Rolls (12-count)
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • ½ pound thinly-sliced deli ham (such as Black Forest)
  • ¼ pound deli-sliced sharp cheddar cheese
  • ¼ pound deli-sliced Swiss cheese
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1½ teaspoons poppy seeds
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • Pinch kosher salt (if needed)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, stir together mayonnaise and 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard to make slider spread. Set aside.
  2. Using a serrated bread knife, carefully slice through the entire connected package of slider buns horizontally, separating tops from bottoms while keeping each half intact as one piece. Place them cut side up on a baking sheet.
  3. Preheat your oven’s broiler to high with the rack in the second position down from the top (about 6 inches from broiler element).
  4. Broil the rolls on the cut-sides only for 1-2 minutes, until lightly toasted. Watch closely and never walk away as they can burn quickly.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F with the rack in the middle position. Lightly spray a 9×13 inch glass or light-colored ceramic baking dish with cooking spray (if using a pan with darker interior, reduce oven temperature to 325°F).
  6. Place the bottom half of the toasted rolls in the prepared baking dish, toasted side facing up.
  7. Spread a little more than half of the Dijon-mayo mixture onto the rolls in the baking dish.
  8. Assemble the sliders by layering in the following order: cheddar cheese, ham, Swiss cheese.
  9. Spread the remaining Dijon-mayo onto toasted side of the top half of the rolls and place them over the Swiss cheese layer.
  10. In a small bowl, combine melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, poppy seeds, onion powder, and a pinch of salt if using.
  11. Pour butter mixture over the sliders, using a basting brush or pastry brush to distribute the butter and poppy seeds evenly over the tops and sides. It’s ok if some butter pools around the sliders.
  12. Cover with foil and let stand for 5 minutes.
  13. Bake for 20 minutes, until the sliders are heated through and the cheese is melted.
  14. Remove the foil and continue baking for 5-10 minutes, until the tops of the rolls are golden and crispy. Watch carefully during last stage so they don’t get too dark.
  15. Let the sliders stand for a few minutes and cut the rolls into individual servings. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Watch closely when broiling as rolls can burn quickly. Never walk away from the oven during broiling.
  • If using a pan with darker interior, reduce oven temperature to 325°F to prevent over-browning.
  • Use King’s Hawaiian rolls for authentic sweet flavor. Black Forest ham recommended for best flavor.
  • Can prepare sliders ahead and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking. Add butter mixture fresh right before baking.
  • Reheat leftovers in oven at 325°F for 10-12 minutes until warmed through for best texture.
