Quick one-pan dinner with ground beef, cabbage, and aromatic Asian-inspired seasonings in savory-sweet sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended)
  • 4 cups green cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tsp sriracha (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat sesame oil in large skillet over medium heat until shimmering, about 1 minute.
  2. Add onion, garlic, and ginger. Sauté 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until fragrant and onion softens.
  3. Add ground beef, breaking into crumbles. Cook 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned with no pink remaining.
  4. Add cabbage, soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, and sriracha if using. Toss until well coated.
  5. Cook 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender but still slightly crisp.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Adjust seasonings as needed.
  7. Top with green onions and sesame seeds if using.
  8. Serve immediately over rice or noodles.

Notes

  • Fresh ginger makes biggest flavor difference. Use tamari for gluten-free version.
  • Don’t overcook cabbage; it should stay slightly crisp for best texture.
  • Adjust sriracha for desired heat level. Can substitute ground turkey or chicken for beef.
